026 | Avegers + S.H.I.E.L.D. Servers

Seems the time is nigh. I'm off to Malibu to help 19 with her mission against Monica Rappacini and AIM.

[Private to FURY + CAP]
Unless there's some dire reason I'm needed here? Let me know ASAP, please, as I'm planning to be in California by tonight.
[/End Private]

[Private to NYC Avengers]
Be prepared to schedule those evaluations when I get back, please. Also, if anyone wants an idea of what to expect, you're welcome to observe me when I go.
[/End Private]

Fair warning: communications may be spotty and I'm not sure how long I'll be gone.

Take care all.

A Brief History of HYDRA
(as told by Agent Drew; edited and typed up by Agent 14)

HYDRA. We all know the motto: "Cut off one head, two more grow in its place." But who are these green-wearing bastards?

HYDRA is a terrorist organization known for their criminal and subversive activities in the hopes of bringing about a fascist new world order. Baron Wolfgang von Strucker was not the founder but seized control shortly after joining. He's also known as the Supreme Hydra, and he leads HYDRA with active cells worldwide. Their influence has been particularly strong in Europe over the years.

Each faction has its own leader; however, they all ultimately answer to Baron Strucker. Other high-ranking HYDRA officials include: Madame Hydra (a title that has been bestowed on several women over the years; I don't know who the current holder is, though, I believe it was Viper at one time) and the Gorgon. They-- along with others I'm not familiar with-- are considered the Ruling Council of HYDRA.

Over the years, several factions have split from HYDRA due to conflicting ideals. So we have the Baron to thank for the founding of Advanced Idea Mechanics (A.I.M.) and Secret Empire among other, less successful, groups. They have been known to cooperate with HYDRA, though, when working toward common goals-- as has the Hand for reasons I'm not quite clear on. (Supernatural ninjas and fascist scientists don't seem to have a lot in common but what do I know?)

Often HYDRA trades skilled fighters for sheer numbers (as the motto might suggest) but this is not always the case. They had, in the past, a program not unlike that to create super soldiers from volunteers (or the children of volunteers). The success rate is unknown because, at one point, most were killed in an attack on the HYDRA base where they were living. It is believed the scientist and research done were also lost in that attack.

Those members with powers that remain are trained to become assassins or one man/woman armies, depending on their power set. These people are particularly dangerous, especially when they believe in their cause emphatically. And those who do not? Well, HYDRA keeps telepaths (such as Mentallo) in their employ to ensure loyalty and cooperation from their members-- whether they like it or not.

In short, HYDRA is a serious threat whenever they pop up. They've been linked to numerous terrorist and neo-Nazi attacks. Despite using cannon fodder in battle, they also possess nearly unparalleled technological abilities. From where that comes, I couldn't say. I do know they receive funding from ill-gotten Nazi treasures and the investments of the original Hand leaders and, so far, no attempts to freeze their assets have been successful.

Any questions?

"Well, Van Dyne was found out. Don't know if that will make my job easier, harder or obsolete.

"If my Janet assignment does end, it may be time to retire Miri Johnson as Northstar has joined the Avengers. Aurora being linked to the team, like Quicksilver, makes her much easier to monitor. Not to mention that she lives with her brother-- we'll know if anything goes awry.

"By the way, thanks for that word a day calendar, Fury. Today's word was awry, in case you were wondering.

"Assignment status: Outlaw-- contact will soon be established to determine whether she is looking to stay short- or long-term. Sunspot-- Twitchy is working something up to have me in the temp pool at Da Costa Industries. Van Dyne-- current status unknown; should have update in next few days. A.I.M.-- still haven't had much progress with Project: Scorpion.

"Also, I have outlined a proposal for infiltrating the Hellfire Club. There is something going on there and no one seems to know what it is. I aim to change that. The only problem is finding a way in. Much as I loathe to admit it, this may be an assignment for someone else.

"It will all be discussed in my meeting with Fury next week. No sense in worrying about it now.

"Drew out."

"Finished my mission report. It was painful, just like always.

"At least everything went without a hitch. I observed the facility. I compromised their security (which required wearing one of those stupid yellow outfits but at least it covered my face. I got the files on Project: Scorpion onto a disc and then returned home again.

The only frustrating part was Rappaccini. According to S.H.I.E.L.D. intel, she was meant to come to the facility with the Scorpion project. I spent days and days on stakeout but it was for naught. She never showed. And I got a sore back from cramped conditions.

"Ugh. Bad intel always pisses me off.

"Well, anyway. It's back to my normal day job for me. Not so bad, really, considering I'm starting with a Girl's Night out with Janet and Jeanne-Marie.

"Actually, it's kind of weird now. I didn't care much for either at the start of our relationship but now... I think it might be nice to have a real friendship with both of them. There's nothing for it, though-- that's my job and I'm very good at it. Blessing and a curse.

"Hear that, Fury? My life-- hard. Don'tcha think I deserve a raise for my efforts?

"Yeah, yeah. Government job, dream on.

"Drew out."

OOC: Jess does all of her logs verbally, hence the quote marks. They're stored on the server just like the written ones, though, and can be played for others to hear if not marked private. (Think LJ voice post.) People can then comment in writing if they like and she'll respond in kind.
